HEATING SERVICES IN FOREST LAKE
AND THE NORTHEAST METRO

Howell Heating repairs, maintains, and installs furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, ductless mini-splits, and garage heaters for homeowners in Forest Lake and across the Northeast Metro. We carry and are factory-trained on Lennox® and Carrier®, and we also service all major brands, so we can help regardless of what brand is currently installed in your home.

Furnace Repair

When your furnace quits in the middle of a Minnesota winter, you need someone who can find the problem and fix it right. We diagnose and repair all major furnace brands, from ignition and flame sensor problems to blower motors, control boards, and venting issues. If the fix is simple, we'll tell you. If your furnace is near the end of its life and a repair doesn't make sense, we'll tell you that too, and walk you through your options.

We get it. When something stops working, the first thing most people do is look it up online, and plenty of homeowners are handy enough to try a fix or two themselves. Checking the thermostat, the filter, or the breaker is always a smart place to start. Beyond that, safety comes first. A furnace combines gas, high-voltage electrical parts, and sensitive controls, and a wrong move can damage the equipment, create a safety hazard, or turn a simple repair into an expensive one. If you're not completely comfortable with what you're doing, the safest choice is to leave the furnace cabinet closed and give us a call. Let us know what you've already checked. It gives us a head start on finding the problem.

Howell Heating is not responsible for damage, injury, or additional repair costs resulting from repairs or troubleshooting attempted by homeowners or third parties.

Is It Time to Replace Your Furnace?

Most furnaces last 15 to 20 years. If yours is getting up there in age and needs a costly repair, or if you're calling for repairs more than once a year, replacement often makes more sense than putting more money into an older unit. A good rule of thumb: if a repair costs 50% or more of what a new furnace would cost, it's usually time to replace.

Which Furnaces Do We Install?

We install two product lines from each of our two brands, so we can match the right furnace to your home and your budget:

  • Dave Lennox Signature® Collection: Lennox's premium line, with its most advanced, highest-efficiency, and quietest equipment. Learn more at Lennox.com

  • Lennox Elite® Series: high-efficiency, reliable comfort at a price a step below the Signature Collection. Learn more at Lennox.com

  • Carrier Infinity® Series: Carrier's top line, built for maximum efficiency and precise, even comfort throughout your home. Learn more at Carrier.com

  • Carrier Performance™ Series: Carrier's mid-range line, with a strong balance of efficiency, comfort, and price. Learn more at Carrier.com

Every installation follows our Best Practice procedures, including proper venting, correct refrigerant charge on paired systems, and a check of your ductwork, because even the best furnace won't perform the way it should if it isn't installed right. Estimates on new furnace installs are always free, and financing is available.

Warranty: Every new furnace we install comes with a 10-year parts warranty from Lennox® or Carrier®, a 20-year heat exchanger warranty, and a 2-year labor warranty from Howell Heating. Dave Lennox Signature® Collection furnaces go even further, with a lifetime heat exchanger warranty. We handle the warranty registration for you, so your coverage is in place without any extra paperwork on your end.

Boiler Repair and Installation

We repair, maintain, and install gas and propane boilers, including hot water and in-floor radiant heating systems. Boilers are common in older Minnesota homes and in newer homes with radiant floors, and they need someone who understands how the whole system works together, not just the boiler itself. Whether you need a repair, a tune-up, or a straight answer on replacement, we can help. Estimates on new boiler installs are always free.

Can a Heat Pump Work in a Minnesota Winter?

Yes, with the right setup. Today's cold-climate heat pumps can heat efficiently well below freezing, and in Minnesota they're often paired with a gas or propane furnace that takes over during the coldest stretches. This is called a dual-fuel system. A heat pump also cools your home in summer, so one system covers both seasons. We install Lennox® and Carrier® heat pumps and can help you decide whether one makes sense for your home. Estimates on new heat pump installs are always free.

Ductless Mini Splits

Ductless mini-splits are a great fit for rooms your ductwork doesn't reach: additions, finished garages, three-season porches, and upstairs rooms that never seem to stay comfortable. They heat and cool, they're quiet, and each zone has its own control, so you only heat the spaces you're using. Estimates on new mini-split installs are always free. Learn more at Lennox.com

Garage Heaters

A garage heater turns a cold Minnesota garage into usable space all winter, whether it's a workshop, a place to work on the car, or just somewhere that isn't freezing when you climb into your vehicle. We install and service Reznor® garage heaters, a trusted name in garage and shop heating, and we'll size the heater to your space so it keeps up on the coldest days without wasting fuel. Estimates on new garage heater installs are always free. Learn more at Reznor.com

Do You Need Yearly Furnace Maintenance?

Not always. Newer equipment doesn't always need much upkeep, and we won't sell you a visit you don't need. If you're not sure whether a tune-up is worth it for your system, call us and we'll tell you honestly.

DID YOU KNOW?

Many of the no-heat calls we get in winter come down to something simple: a clogged air filter, dead thermostat batteries, a tripped breaker, or snow and ice blocking the vent pipes on a high-efficiency furnace. Check these first. It might save you a service call, and if it doesn't, you've given us a head start.
